Two male accusers have come forward to say that Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, who represents central Los Angeles and is one of the public faces of the #MeToo movement in the state legislature, sexually harassed them at various legislature and party functions–bordering on sexual assault.
Democratic activists and leaders have been mostly silent about these recent accusations against Assemblywoman Garcia, which has led some within the party to question the gender-based double standards. It was just in recent months that sexual misconduct allegations against prominent male state legislators rocked the Democratic Party, and was met with high vitriol and campaigns to force their resignations.
This has left some democratic activists to question whether the Assemblywoman will be held to the same standards as her similarly-accused male colleagues in the legislature.
On Friday, Assemblywoman Garcia announced that she would take an unpaid leave of absence while her sexual misconduct allegations are investigated.
It is important to note, however, that Christine Pelosi, the Chair of the state Democratic Party’s Women’s Caucus, recently spoke out and stated that she appreciates Assemblywoman Garcia taking an unpaid leave of absence while the “serious” charges are investigated.
In an exclusive to The Daily Fold, sources close to this publication have provided screenshots which purport to show that within an internal, statewide Facebook group of elected state Democratic Party delegates–several are victim blaming the male accusers against Assemblywoman Garcia, and are claiming a possible conspiracy against her due to her public support of the #MeToo movement.
